Trying to sound intelligent

I have nothing witty to put here...clearly i am not doing a good job of sounding intelligent.

I have been studying chemistry now for six years. I discovered my love of chemistry eight years ago. Overall...i would say chemistry has been a very major part of my life for quite some time now. And yet...the more i learn about chemistry...the less i know about chemistry of the personal kind. How exactly does that work?

2H2 + O2 ---> 2H2O

That's not hard! Chemistry of elements always makes sense. It's logical, consistent, and always there. Why does that not work with people? There could be a good looking guy who shares some of my interests...2H2 + O2, but i get no water! Nothing...not even a drop. Not one single molecule. However...i can meet a moderately attractive guy that i have nothing in common with...and BAM it's a god damn waterfall!

Would someone please explain to me the chemistry of people? It's obvious that i am lacking in that department.

Wow...i find this absolutely disgusting. I consider myself a pretty open minded person...but i just can't support the idea that 12 year old children can possibly make the rational decision to have sex with an adult. Nor do i think it is not animal abuse when people have sex with animals. It's bullshit that these people think they are defending the interests of children, and not just themselves. They complain b/c politicians speak of pedophiles as criminals...that's b/c you ARE criminals. I just have to draw the line somewhere ..and this is that somewhere!

This weekend has been pretty relaxing i'd say. Saturday i didn't do anything but sleep. Yesterday i ran, went to church, did laundry. Today i ran, locked myself out of my apartment, folded laundry, went to the park, and going to a picnic later on today with Gun Enthusiast.

So i'm going to start looking for jobs now. Not any serious searching...just a checking things out to see what's available. In one and one half years i hope to be moving to some place new. I don't know where, i figure the right job will come along at the right time...and off to a new adventure i'll go!

So i made it back from PA in one piece. The trip out there took for freaking ever, but it was probably some of the most fun i've had since i graduated college. The first day of class i got to meet lots of guys and then we went out drinking on monday night. After that night, i was dubbed the bad good girl, and spent most of the week hanging with guys from the Philly SWAT team. They were pretty cool. Classes were good. We made meth (legally of course, and my team won the prize for the best meth), we shot with a simulator while wearing our air purifying respirators (APRs), we went through a booby trapped apartment, and then we planned a raid and then raided a suspected meth lab (training simulation of course). We were wearing full self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) while doing this raid. Oh! And we walked through a smoke house wearing our SCBAs. It was really kinda cool. Not relevant to my job at all, but still very cool. I think a good time was had by all! We made it back in around 11pm last night. I've spent most of the day sleeping and relaxing. Tomorrow will be laundry, and then on Monday i think i may be going out with Pete (guy who fixed on our computers at work).

As promised, here's an analysis (how nerdy am i?) of my date last week.

Name of Date: Gun Enthusiast
Location of date: his parents' house
Date grade: A
Date bio: 24 yr old male from Warsaw, IN. No college degree that i know of. Lives at home with his parents b/c he's building a house. Does injection molding for a job, enjoys outdoor activities and shooting guns. Has applied for the County Sheriff in Warsaw. Tall, dark, and handsome.

Details:

He hadn't seen a picture of me yet, so he had no idea what to expect from me. We had dinner with his parents, his mom made spinach lasagna (excellent), home made bread, and for desert she cooked chocolate cake in small flower pots, sprinkled dried cake mix on it, and put a flower in it. She had put it up as table decoration, and I actually thought it was flowers in a flower pot. Apparently his mom has a thing for making interesting deserts. :-) It was definitely good. Then his dad and him took me outside and let me shoot some guns. I got to shoot a .50 caliber BMG (i think that's what it was called), a gloc, a beretta, a 454 casalle (spelling??) and several other rifles. I really enjoyed it. Then we took a ride in his convertible mustang (i'm gonna guess 1960's was the year) to go get some icecream for everyone. It was a good night for a ride, and i think we had a good time.

Conclusion:

Good date, and very low key. Not a lot of pressure. We have a lot of common interests, and he seems interested in doing lots of outdoor activities, which is a definite bonus. I'm going out with him again on June 16th for sure, but hopefully before then too.

I'll be gone to PA for a week for clan lab training for work. We're leaving this morning, so i won't be posting until i come back. For a look at things to come...

I had a pseudodate last night...and i give this guy an A. Details to come next week!

Yes...i went to college in this town...

Attack Ads

I'm so proud of my brother. He has an interview with Fox 21 as a graphic artist. I hope he gets the job! Good luck bubby!!

So...something that's been irritating me lately. Army recruiting commercials. I will preface this rant as follows: I support our military. Without our military we would not have the freedoms we do...nor anyone to protect us. I think being in the military is a noble profession and admire and respect people who choose that career path. However...i do not approve of their recruiting methods as follows.

Commercial 1:

A young man sits at the table with his mom. And he tells her that he's found a way to go to college. He says "don't get mad mom...but i've checked them out...(insert Army plug here) And besides, it's time for me be to the man."

Issue:

This commercial is telling all impressionable young teens that they can not truly be "The Man" until they join the army. Boys who do not join the army never become "the man". Joining the army does not make you a man...nor does not joining the army doom you to perpetual boyhood either.

Commerical 2:

A young man in an Army uniform is sitting on the front porch with his dad. His dad says "You did two things back there that you've never done before. At least not at the same time. You shook my hand..and looked me straight in the eye. Where did you learn that?"

Issue:

This may seem like a perfectly innocent commercial. However...the comment about shaking hands and looking in the eye is a metaphor for respect. By joining the army...you earn respect from your father. Now that's just striking a little below the belt. How many boys out there are desperate for their father's approval? Joining the army does not earn you respect. Being a decent person who doesn't sit on his ass and play video games all day earns you respect. Get a job...any job...that earns you respect. Stop being a dick and move out of your momma's house. That earns you respect.

Commerical 3:

A young man is playing pool with his dad and discussing the option of the Army Reserve. He says they'll pay for school, and i can get training in just about it anything. Dad "but it's the army". Son"No...it's the reserve. They'll train me around here until they need me." Dad: "but it's the army" Blah blah blah in this style...then finally the dad says "Will you get good training?" Son: "it's the army"

Issue:

How sweet and touching. This is by far the best of the commercials. My only issue with this commercial is the statement "They'll train me around here until they need me." What they don't tell you is...you'll go to college...get your degree...and then ship out to Iraq before you have the opportunity to use your degree.

Deja Disclaimer:

I support our troops. I am grateful for what they do. I do not support the ones who govern the troops though. I think our troops deserve someone better than George Bush.

I've been dying for a pair of Manolo Blahnik's. I don't know why, but I just love his shoes. I've found the perfect pair. I don't have a birthday coming up anytime soon. But i do accept "just thinking of you" gifts...if anyone is thinking about me. ;-)

A Pink Dream!

Today was the Walk For Diabetes!!! Sarah and I walked 3 miles in 45 minutes. Go us! We totally rock!!! It was great fun, except that it was 45 degrees and raining today. So i was pretty cold and wet, but i have managed to get dry and moderately warm now. Hurray for good causes! Nothing else going on this weekend though.

Today i saw a gaggle of geese crossing the busiest street in Fort Wayne. Two adult geese and about 5 baby geese (they were kinda big...but still gray and fuzzy). It was quite interesting. Traffic completely stopped. The geese strolled into the street like they owned the damn place...and then stopped in the median until traffic stopped.

I'm watching sickingly happy married celebrity couples and their elaborate weddings. What is wrong with me?

BTW...i hate it when people don't call you when they say they will.

Ah HA!!! I finally won my first tennis game (for real). Eric and Sarah were playing me, and I won! Rock on! However...i did take a spill on the tennis court, and now my ass hurts something serious right now.

This weekend was good fun. I got to hang out with Sara (not to be confused with Sarah), and it was great! Pansy Brunch was nice, and i got to see Adrianne and Kevin this weekend too! We had a lot of fun...but i definitely drank way too much on Saturday night!

Nothing else going on around here. I'm doing the Walk For The Cure this weekend. Woohoo!!! I still hope that one day we can find a cure for diabetes.

Wednesday, May 03, 2006

I won my first tennis game today. Sadly, it was me and Sarah against a 12 year old. I should be ashamed of myself. Later in the afternoon...the 12 year old beat me. And i wasn't trying to let him win. Oh...did i mention he had just played a soccer game and was wearing soccer cleats on the tennis court? Yeah...i'm not really that good at tennis yet.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12591413/

I found this article interesting, mostly because i definitely fall into the geographical illiterate category. It's really kinda sad i think.

FYI...i'm going to terre haute and lafayette on Saturday, for those interested in my whereabouts this coming weekend.

So i forgot to tell you all what i did this weekend. Although some people criticize me for it, i think it's pretty cool. I was at my friend Sarah's house on saturday and we saw her dogs circling something in the yard. We thought it might be a mouse or something, so we went to investigate. Her smallest dog picked up something gray and fuzzy and come bounding over to me and so proud of herself! Well, i looked down and it was a little baby mole! It was the size of my hand, and you all know that i have small hands! It was just so cute, and it was still alive! It didn't have any eyes, and it had HUGE feet! It was just adorable! If it would stay that size forever, i would have kept it. But instead we decided to put it outside of her fence. We got some pictures of it first, when i get them i might put them up. Some people (Ahem...dianna!) think that i should have gotten rid of it. But i just couldn't do it! It's a good thing i'm not an eyeless, big foot that likes to dig in the dirt...or dianna might want to get rid of me too! ;-) hehehehe Don't tell her that i can't see without my contacts, or that i wear a size 7 1/2 shoe. She might decide that two out of three is good enough! If you haven't heard from me in a while, check the trash can!!! I love you my baby girdinnia!!

Have you ever had a day where you felt like you were being left behind. Or that there wasn't any room for you anywhere? I'm sure tomorrow i will be ahead of the game, and have too much space.
